The likely barn-burner is scheduled for 12 rounds at the Prudential Center where John Duddy met his waterloo last April.
Gunn, who’s blown out 18 of his victims on an impressive 21-3-1 ledger, believes it won’t go the distance.
“This fight definitely isn’t going to the cards,” said the 35 year-old challenger. “One of us is getting knocked out, either him or I. I know this is going to be the hardest fight of my life but I am ready to go!”
Of County Cork roots, Gunn will have to bring his A-game against the tough Pole. Nicknamed “Goral” for his astonishing chin and toughness, Adamek has cemented his position as the top cruiserweight in the world with stunning victories over former world champions Steve Cunningham, O’Neil Bell and most recently Andy Lee’s Kronk stablemate Jonathon Banks, a previously undefeated contender.
The once beaten Adamek [37-1, 25 KOs] is three years younger than Gunn and in addition to the IBF title, will also put his Ring Magazine belt on the line.
From Gilowice in the Polish mountains, the champion said he was taking Gunn serious.
“For me every fight is a big fight. I basically prepare the same way each time; of course we make adjustments to fit my opponent. Gunn is hungry, it’s his big chance, and he could be dangerous. I am serious about this fight,” Adamek noted.
Trainer Andrew Gmitruk lauded his charge, declaring all systems go for Adamek.
“He has very good footwork, very good direction, speed, a lot of jabs. He is dangerous for everybody,” he said of Adamek. “I have watched Bobby Gunn, we are prepared.”
So is Gunn.
“I had the training camp of a lifetime,” said the former IBA champion. “If I fight the way I trained to, things will go my way. I had many different looks from my sparring partners and Adamek will present a great challenge but come [Saturday], I am ready to produce major fireworks!”
