Darren Clarke and Padraig Harrington made their way to Thousand Oaks, Calif., for the Tiger Woods Invitational, formally known as the Williams World Challenge, but served as mere cannon fodder for the main attraction.

Woods took down the $1 million top prize by outshooting Vijay Singh, 273-276. Harrington placed 13th in the 18-man field, carding 289 (69-74-75-71) for 72 holes over the Sherwood Country Club, which was one stroke over par.

And Clarke? Good thing for him that Mark Calcavecchia was in the field. At least that way there was someone in his rearview mirror. Clarke shot 295 (72-73-76-74), while Calcavecchia struggled to 299.

Harrington contented himself with $137,500 for four days’ work, while Clarke’s booty totaled $130,000.
