And the Pennsylvania-based McGinley pledged a “supreme effort” on the part of the AOH around the U.S. in an effort to secure a stay on deportation.
“What has really taken me aback is the decision to reverse the earlier decision allowing asylum for Bernadette McAllister and the kids,” McGinley said.
McGinley said that the Hibernian national membership was being alerted by e-mail and phone calls following the decision by an immigration court to deny Malachy McAllister’s appeal against deportation.
McGinley said that he was angered by what he called the “very negative attitude” and “mean spiritedness” toward Irish nationals in the courts and in the U.S. Justice Department.
“This is a very sad justice department,” McGinley said. “The Ashcroft people are on a mission. They have blinders on and don’t see the human rights issues in cases like this. And the judiciary is either not involved or is being very negative.”
McAllister is a member of the Hibernians and McGinley said that he had recently attended and spoken at the order’s national president’s dinner.
“This is a very difficult situation, but we will be getting the alert out to all our members,” McGinley said.
