Thinking of checking out the high-tech opportunities in booming Ireland? Then the first Irish technology career expo in the U.S., which will take place June 14-15 in New York and June 17-18 in Boston, may be the place to start.

The expo, showcasing high-tech job opportunities in Ireland, will feature more than 50 of Ireland’s leading high-tech companies which are recruiting for software, engineering, hardware, and sales and marketing staff.

Admission to the expo is free. There will be a number of guest speakers covering immigration, taxation, property, banking, storage, moving, and relocation services. Eugenie Houston, author of the best-selling book "Working and Living in Ireland" will be among the speakers.

In New York, the career expo will be held at the Sheraton Towers Hotel; in Boston, the venue will be the Hynes Convention Center

According to Expo organizers, IT Staffing Ltd., several leading Irish high-tech companies will be among the exhibitors at the expo.

The career expo is expected to attract between 6,000 and 10,000 attendees, Shay Clancy, IT Staffing Ltd.’s director of European operations, told the Echo on Monday.

"This is the first time a group of Irish companies have been brought together to put on an expo in the U.S. and to attract Irish and Irish Americans," Clancy said.

He added that it was ironic because for so many years immigration was in the opposite direction as people left Ireland in search of opportunities.

"Now, Irish companies have grown and developed so much over the past few years that they’re going outside of Ireland to seek qualified skilled staff," Clancy said.

He added that Irish immigration rules had been relaxed for Americans who have a company to sponsor them to work in Ireland.

Top companies

Leading Irish high-tech companies Trintech, Hewlett-Packard Ireland and Tellabs will be among those showcasing high-tech career opportunities.

"Ireland’s economy is booming, especially in the high-tech industry, and there is a growing demand for skilled high-tech professionals," Clancy added. "The Irish technology career expo is an excellent opportunity for interested high-tech professionals to meet with some of Ireland’s top technology firms to discuss exciting employment opportunities."
