In coming out, Cusack showed typical courage

A few years ago, the man behind the launch of a new gay magazine in Dublin thought he’d come up with the perfect scheme to generate cheap publicity for his enterprise. The cover of the first edition of the publication would feature two men in inter-county shirts kissing. This genius (who wasn’t gay himself) was of the opinion that this would shock the GAA, spark huge controversy in the media, and end up flogging thousands of extra copies of his mag to nosey parkers. When the cover hit the newsstands, it was to a very large collective shrug from the GAA public. Anybody who ever spent any time in a hurling or football club knows they had gay teammates and gay mentors. And what of it?
