Oh that Patrick were around today, at a time when Ireland’s current political leadership seemingly needs a little reminding of the simple, yet potentially divine nature of the Good Friday agreement, not to mention its centrality to the future cohesiveness of the very same island. All of it.
Patrick could start with Irish justice minister Michael McDowell, a cabinet member with a backbencher’s talent for the verbal volley, but with the kind of front-bench clout that demands more in the way of post-volley substantiation.
