On March 17, STARZ! Cinema celebrates St. Patrick’s’ Day with a film marathon that features the work of some of the best new actors, directors and writers working in Ireland today.
The marathon kicks off at 4:30 p.m. with Trojan Eddie. Belfast-born Stephen Rea stars as Trojan Eddie, a low-level con man who finds himself caught in the middle when his assistant woos the young wife of his thuggish boss, played by Ireland’s Limerick-born, Richard Harris.
"Into the West" follows at 6:20 with a fable about two young brothers who flee their drab Dublin life with the help of a magical white horse. Gabriel Byrne stars.
At 8, " Dancing at Lughnasa," the big screen adaptation of Irish playwright Brian Friel’s acclaimed play, airs. Meryl Streep and Catherine McCormack star as unmarried sisters in a 1930s close-knit Irish family affected by hardships and the return of their brother.
At 9:40, it’s "The Last of the High Kings," a look at life as a teenager in 1977 Dublin.
The focus on Irish film finishes with award-winning Irish author Roddy Doyle’s adaptation of his own popular novel "The Snapper" at 11:30. Colm Meaney leads an ensemble cast in this story about a working-class family that is turned upside-down when the teenage daughter becomes pregnant.
