Irish Open Golf Championship 2008

February 17, 2011

By Staff Reporter

Each year, the cream of the Irish golf community in the tristate area converge on this monster of a golf course to compete for the right to be crowned the Irish Open Champion.
Last year’s winner, Dublin native Dave Massey, is considered one of the favorites to bring home the title, although Westmeath’s Paul Kiernon and Kerry’s Brendan Foley, who usually put in a strong showing, may have a thing or two to say about that.
Dublin’s Paul Coughlan and Donegal’s Cahal McMonagle will renew their rivalry in the Scratch competition. Coughlan narrowly won last year’s epic after a three-hole playoff.
Last year’s innovative electronic scoring system will be in place again, with a few modifications to make it feel even more like a PGA experience.
The Irish Echo has again showed its commitment to supporting this event by sponsoring the wonderful array of crystal trophies for the winners.
