As expected, Ireland clocked up a record breaking 70-0 victory over Georgia in last weekend’s opening World Cup qualifying game at Lansdowne Road. The 10-try rout was the biggest win by the Irish in an international and it also marked coach Warren Gatland’s first success after six matches.

In fact, Ireland didn’t have to be all that good to see off the inexperienced Georgians, and while another victory in the second qualifying game against Romania this Saturday is in the cards, the first real test of the season comes when the Irish take on South Africa on Nov. 28.

There was an added bonus in the wake of the 70-point rout when Keith Wood announced that he would after all be signing his contract with IRFU. Wood is now back in contention for the team to meet the South Africans.
