Mueller, 47, will assume control of Aer Lingus operations on October 1.
Muller has an extensive resume to his name. His past jobs include top posts at DHL Worldwide, Lufthansa, Daimler Benz and Sabena, the Belgian airline.
His position at TUI saw him oversee seven airlines, 160 aircraft and 11,000 employees, according to an RTE report.
“Christoph has the experience and the skill-set to lead the Aer Lingus team through what is an unprecedented operating environment and to make the changes that are required at Aer Lingus,” said Aer Lingus chairman and acting CEO, Colm Barrington.
“The company has an internationally renowned brand and while there are many challenges ahead, I am excited about the medium term prospects for the business,” Muller commented.
Aer Lingus, like virtually all international airlines, is facing major challenges caused by the global economic downturn. The carrier recently announced the mothballing of several transatlantic routes for the winter months.
