The IBA is an association of New Jersey business professionals and business owners of Irish descent launched in March, 2008.
Sheridan was honored as Man of the Year.
He helped found the IBA after earlier serving as president of the New York-based Irish Business Organization and recognizing the need for a similar business networking and support group in New Jersey.
As president, Sheridan helped launch the IBA and position the organization for early growth while facilitating interaction
between members.
“Being involved with the IBA has given me the opportunity to meet people I would not have had the fortune to otherwise,” Sheridan said.
Molly Maguire’s was recognized as Business of the Year for the keystone position the pub and restaurant has attained within the New Jersey Irish community. Publicans Joe Arre and John McPartlan opened Molly Maguire’s on St. Patrick’s Day, 2002 with the intent to match the feel and look of the traditional pubs of Ireland. The IBA was born in the alcoves of the pub.
“We were overwhelmed by the response,” said McPartlan. “Hosting the IBA was
a natural,” he said.
The IBA has become a natural fit for New Jersey business people of Irish descent, according to Al Nunan, IBA president. The group has enjoyed healthy growth and draws members and guests from throughout north-central New Jersey and the Shore region.
“The strongest business ties are built on personal relationships,” Nunan said.
“No one can claim a better understanding of personal relationships than the Irish, and we know a bit about doing business, as well.
“New Jersey is the proud home of a vibrant Irish-American population and the Irish Business Association is unique in that we offer this community an association dedicated solely to development of their business interests as well as personal interaction.
“Tonight is the first of what I know will be many annual awards dinners. We could not have reached this point without the guidance of Pat Sheridan and the support of Molly Maguire’s,” said Nunan.
Patrick Sheridan lives in Middleton with his wife, Diane, and their two daughters. Molly Maguire’s is located at 1085 Central Avenue in Clark.
The IBA, which meets the third Tuesday of each month in Clark, New Jersey, is an affiliate of the Gateway Regional Chamber of Commerce. For more information contact the Gateway Chamber at (908)352.0900 or www.gatewaychamber.com.
