The student team of Patrick Tangney and Rachel Campion of Presentation Secondary School stormed to victory in the regional final of the CERT Young Chef of the Future competition held at the Cork Institute of Technology on Thursday, Jan. 23.
Patrick acted as chef and Rachel took care of the food service, ensuring that the duo emerged victorious from the eight-team competition after a hectic day’s activity at the hot plates. As a result of their efforts, they have now qualified for the Young Chef of the Future final in Dublin on Feb. 13.
Teams were required to create a menu for a four-course meal based on the theme of “A Taste of Ireland.” As part of this, the competitors had to prepare a meal for a group of four foreign tourists and then prepare, cook and serve the main course of the menu within two hours.
The CERT Young Chef of the Future competition has been running in secondary schools around the country since September and has attracted 172 culinary whiz kids in both junior and senior categories.
