Bishop Bill Murphy is furious over the inaccurate use of his photograph by Ireland’s Sunday Mirror to illustrate a story about another Bishop Murphy, a controversial U.S. clergyman who, in a $2 million lawsuit, has been accused of helping to promote “pro-homosexual” teachings.
The story referred to Bishop William Murphy of Long Island, but in an embarrassing slip-up by the newspaper, the report was accompanied by a photograph of his namesake, the bishop of Kerry.
“The bishop is naturally upset by the article and the fact that it is obviously completely inaccurate that his photo was used for an article that is about a priest in the States,” Kerry diocesan director of communications, Fr. Rory O Sullivan told The Kingdom newspaper.
The Sunday Mirror had previously exposed the U.S. bishop for “kicking six elderly nuns out of their convent” in Long Island so he could turn the top floor into a luxury home for himself.
