Killarney center gets the nod

But permission for a controversial 300 feet high viewing tower has been refused.
The board ruled the tower would be “incongruous” and dominate both in townscape and the world-renowned, highly scenic landscape setting of the town of Killarney.
It would also detract from the protected structures of the hotel and the adjacent railway station, the ruling said.
The site, which includes the former Great Southern – renamed the Malton Hotel- was bought in 2006 at the height of the construction boom by BL Beara, a local consortium made up of neighboring hoteliers and directors of the Sunday’s Well property company.
