The New York Ladies GAA opens their 1999 season with two games Sunday at Paddy’s Field in the Bronx.
In the opening game, at 1:30 p.m., champions Cavan take on Rockland. Cavan will no doubt be looking for a good opener to their season and look to the talents of Ger Mahon, Rosie O’Reilly, Olive Wilson, Justine Clifford and Karen Shalvey to gain their first points of the season. They are a well-rounded team and will be hard to dethrone. Rockland will be determined to open their season well and look to the skills of Mags Dineen, Joanna Hoenniner, KerryAnn Galvin, Cathy Dunleavy and M’bh Brennan.
In the other game, Ciarrai take on Na Fianna. Both teams will be looking for a good season. Na Fianna had a great year last year, making it to the Anne Kearney Cup final and Championship semifinal but didn’t manage to get their hands on either cup. They will be hoping for a title or two this year and look to Alison Lineen, Monica Slevin, Maree Maloney, Marie Curran and Michelle Davis (transferred from Monaghan) to continue their good performances. An Chiarai will look to Ann Hanrahan, Orla Doyle, Ella Lowebridge, Brenda Walsh to rally a result from their first game.
