Cavan 4-13, Mayo 2-5
In what was expected to be a much closer encounter, Cavan came out the quicker off the mark, opening the game with a long ball from Justine Clifford to Ger Mahon, who converted the first point of the game. The long ball into the forward line worked all day for Cavan, with Rosie O’Reilly placing a great ball in front of Breda Carroll, who escaped Fiona Ward and shot for the back of the net.
With Mayo still trying to settle down Cavan continued to attack with a point from Karen Shalvey and another goal coming from the long ball of O’Reilly to Mahon. A short kick out by goalkeeper AnnMarie McGrail resulted in a point from newcomer Gillian Bennett. Now well in the driver’s seat a solo run by Deirdre Feeney put Cavan further in the lead.
The second half saw a continuance of Cavan dominance, but then Mayo rallied behind Elish Doherty and Louise Mahon, who feed lots of ball into full forward Colette McGoldrick. However, McGoldrick was unable to convert and a later path for goal by Cathy McKenna was well-intercepted by Catherine Russell. At 15 minutes, Cavan scored again with points from Feeney and Mahon.

Leitrim 2-19, Ciarrai 3-3
The Ciarrai defense of Brenda Walsh and Pauline Boyle were just unable to contain a strong Leitrim team that ran out to a 1-11 to nil halftime lead.
Ciarrai came alive in the second half, however, behind Jeanine Rynne’s two goals. Leitrim still a little shakened managed to increase their lead with scores from Pat Meade and Tracey Rice. In the dying minutes, Ciarrai’s Orla Doyle took a sideline ball which found the back of the net. However time had run out.

Rockland 3-2, Monaghan 2-4
At the 15-minute mark of the second half, Rockland were awarded a penalty as a result of a high neck tackle in the square, which Mags Dineen converted to put Rockland in the lead by a point for the first time in the game. The penalty was just what the game needed and Alice Kivlehan was very unlucky not to have a quick follow up goal. Minutes later M’bh Brennan put Rockland further ahead with a point.
Rockland will be happy with this win with fine performances by Mags Dineen, Alice Kivlehan and M’bh Brennan.
A disappointing loss for Monaghan having lead all the way in the first half. Liz Collins was excellent in the back line with strong effort by Noreen O’Reilly and Norma McCarthy.
