St. Eunan’s 3-5, N.Y. County 2-3

In their fourth and final game of their New York visit, the St. Eunan’s team from Donegal outdueled their New York County team counterparts Sunday in a well played game at Gaelic Park in the Bronx.

New York started out well Sunday at Gaelic Park, putting up a point from Rosie O’Reilly and a goal from Nadine Doherty before St. Eunan’s took a score.

The New York lead was short-lived, however, as St. Eunan’s forwards got into their stride and put up a goal and three points before long with great scores from Mazzeralla Sweeney, Denise Dunnion and Moira Devenney.

New York leveled with points from Nollaig Cleary and Cathy McKenna. St. Eunan’s turned the game in their favor with a great goal and a point from Sweeney and a point from Denise Dunnion to leave the half time score 2-5 to 1-3.

The second half only produced two scores a goal on both sides: St. Eunan’s goal from a penalty, which was converted by Bridget Clarke, and New York’s goal from Nadine Doherty, who took a lovely pass from Pat Meade before finishing the ball in the back of the net. Both sides enjoyed plenty of possession. St. Eunan’s were unfortunate to lose Ciara Ferry, who was playing a stormer throughout the game before she collided with a player and suffered a shoulder injury toward the end of the half.
