Marking 80 years

Born in 1928 as the echo of an ebullient Irish American community which was starting to enjoy some early political victories, the Irish Echo remains as true to its heritage today as Irish America itself.
In the intervening four score years, Irish America came into its own, its sons and daughters surpassing even the most optimistic expectations of the immigrant waves who came to these shores in the early years of the twentieth century and in the times before even those.
Today, the Irish Echo remains as passionate as ever about its mission of providing a first-class news service while flying the flag for Irish Americans across this great nation and advancing the interests of Ireland.
For 80 years we have had the privilege of telling the story of Irish America and its indomitable people.
To understand just how truly uplifting and exceptional that story has been, we need only to look to our honorees at our 80th Anniversary celebration in the offices of the Irish Consulate in Manhattan: artist Brian O’Doherty, scientist Michael McElroy, bard Jimmy Breslin, politician Joe Crowley, and the venerated institutions of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Emerald Society Band of the New York Police Department.
So as we turn the page on the first 80 years of the Irish Echo, we look forward to opening a new chapter on the still unfolding story of Irish America.
