February 17, 2011

Sean Farrell was on vacation with his parents, John and Bridgett, and his two sisters in Oldcastle, Co. Meath. He was fatally injured when his 15-year-old sister accidentally released the parking brake on a car, causing it to roll down a hill where her little brother was playing.
Sean’s aunt, Catherine Gildea, tried frantically to rescue the boy from under the car but was injured herself and required hospitalization in nearby Drogheda.
The weather in Ireland was unusually hot and sunny last Tuesday, and the family was relaxing in a garden when the accident occurred. Sean was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Bridgett and John Farrell are natives of Ireland and visit there often with their family. Sean was scheduled to enroll in first grade at the Hollis School in Braintree this fall.
A funeral Mass was held Friday at St. Brigid’s Church in Oldcastle. Burial was in Co. Kerry.
