Irish heavyweight boxing champion Kevin McBride will take on Raynardo Minus of the Bahamas in the main event of the fifth Mohegan Sun New England Fight Night series at The Roxy nightclub in Boston this Friday night.

Known as the “Clones Colossus,” the 6-foot-6 McBride hails from Clones, Co. Monaghan, whose last great prizefighter was former world featherweight titlist Barry McGuigan, who was known as the “Clones Cyclone.”

Now living in Dorchester, Mass., the 29-year-old McBride has built a 26-4-1 (won, lost, drawn) record since turning pro in 1992. He battled to a six-round draw with Englishman with Gary Charlton in his debut

match.

In Minus, McBride faces a Caribbean journeyman with a 16-11 ledger. The Irishman is coming off a second round TKO win over one Gary Winmon in Revere, Mass., on May 24. Before that, McBride had suffered a fifth-round TKO loss to DaVarryl Williamson in Las Vegas.

His other losses have been to Michael Murray (TKO 3) in London four years ago; and two setbacks in 1997 to former world title challenger Axel Schulz (TKO 9) in Berlin and Louis Monaco (TKO 5) in Las Vegas.

Brockton handler Goody Petronelli, one half of the Petronelli brothers partnership that worked with legendary middleweight Marvelous Marvin Hagler, trains McBride.

Other fighters appearing on the Rich Cappiello Promotions card at The Roxy include newly crowned New England super lightweight champion Jeff Fraza (11-2, 6 KOs), lightweight Aaron Torres (9-1, 5 KOs), middleweight William Gibbs (7-0, 6 KOs), and Canadian super middleweight Ian Gardener (3-1).
