Another Irish American has ascended to a top publishing position in the U.S. He is Ed McCarrick, who is returning to Time magazine as its new publisher
McCarrick, 48, comes to Time from Life, where he has served as publisher since September 1993.
"It’s a homecoming for me," said McCarrick, who first joined Time in 1973 as a sales trainee.
Both his grandparents came from Mayo. McCarrick attended Chaminade High School in Mineola, L.I., and is a 1971 graduate of Manhattan College in Riverdale.
He and his family live in New Canaan, Conn. He is an active volunteer with the American Cancer Society and Catholic Charities in New Canaan.

McCarrick has served Time in a variety of positions, including as a sales representative in Minneapolis, sales manager in Boston, as automotive category supervisor, as New York sales director, and as associate publisher.
He served as Life’s ad sales director and People’s ad sales manager before becoming the eastern regional ad sales director with Time Inc., before moving to Life as publisher.
McCarrick replaces Jack Haire, who was named president of the Fortune Group.
