The Northeast Division Board of the GAA met recently to elect officers and discuss plans for the coming year, including preparations for hosting the North American County Board championships late in the summer.

The following were recently elected to the new board of officers:

Honorary president, Coley Lydon; chairman, John McDevitt; vice chairman, Pat Bligh; secretary, Ann O’Dea; assistant secretary, Tara McManus; treasurer, Connie McEleheny; assistant treasurer, Martin Gallagher; registrar, Michael Coyne; PRO, Connie Kelly; trustees, Martin Kane, Pat Mulvihill and Michael Grealish.

The Northeast Board held their AGM on Sunday, Feb. 6, at their new headquarters at The Irish Cultural Center in Canton, Mass., with one of the largest crowds ever to attend. It took less than five hours to elect a new slate of officers.

With all old business taken care of, chairman McDevitt wasted no time. After thanking all the outgoing officers and welcoming the new board of officers, he outlined some very ambitious plans for the coming season.

Top of the list was forming a committee to host the North American Championships in Boston in 2000. The chairman also stated that the second playing field would be ready for games by June 1. New stands would be erected and a children’s playground installed. A fund-raising drive is also in the works.
