Meath: labor of love

The drama began when Trim Garda Station received a phone call from Colm Duignan at 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 23.
Duignan indicated that his partner, Teresa Finnegan, was in an advanced state of labor. A garda arranged for the Ballivor couple to meet an ambulance at the Garda Station.
When the ambulance arrived, the two Emergency Medical Technicians concluded that Finnegan required both of their attention full-time and asked that Garda Enda Reddan drive the ambulance to Dublin’s Coombe Hospital.
“I thought they were winding me up,” Reddan said. “I was getting updates as we went along. About 10 minutes into the journey, I was told that Teresa’s water had broken. . . . It was a bit of a change from the normal work shift.”
