Minor Board Rangers teams register victories

Rockland hosted Rangers on Saturday in the first games of the league.

In the under-12 contest, it was Rangers 3-7 Rockland 1-8. Rangers got a firm grip on the game from the start. Midfielder Lorcan Malone 0-2, Mike Wiezorek 1-1, Denis McGoldrick center-half-forward 1-2, and center-back Stephen Cassels 0-1, were in devastating form. Other fine performances by Peter Woods, Mike Carrigy 0-1, Chad Egan 1-0, Pierce Cassels, inspired Rangers.

Rockland’s best were Stephen Spellman, Emmett Woods, Sean McGrath, Conor Whelan and Dillon Maye.

Rangers: Colin Murray, Dan Kenny, Peter Woods, Killian Brady, Pierce Cassels, Stephen Cassels, P.J. Wagner, Lorcan Malone, 0-2, Mike Wiezorek 1-1, Matt Anderson, Denis McGoldrick 1-2, Mike Carrigy 0-1, Mike O’Sullivan, Chad Egan 1-0, Tim Lynch, Chris Cassels 0-1.

Rockland: Kevin Sweeney, Martin Fogarty, Matt Scallion, Mike Dunne, Robert Daly, Conor Whelan, John Korely, Stephen Spellman, Emmett Woods, Jerome Fogarty, Sean McGrath, Emmet McGrade, Simon Daly, Dillon Maye, Shanagh Woods.

In the under-10 game, Rangers won 3-3 to 1-4. Man of the Match was Ronan McGoldrick, 2-0, who scored his second goal after a 40-yard solo run. Brendan Cullinan 1-0, Shane O’Brien 0-1, Brian Durkin 0-1, Martin Lowery 0-1, Brian Twomey, D.J. Shannon, Sean Reynolds and Phil Kennedy excelled for Rangers. Martin Linnane 1-0, Thomas Carmody 0-2, Patrick Keane, Mike Pendergast, Dillon Mayo, Pat Troy, Simon Daly were best for Rockland.
