Minor Board Roundup Barnabas U-16s take title

February 16, 2011

By Staff Reporter

St. Barnabas defeated St. Josephs, New Jersey, 3-9 to 1-7, in an intriguing U-16 league final at the weekend. The game was played at a fast pace, with both teams giving up very little in the early goings. Just before halftime, St. Barnabas broke the game open with two opportunistic goals, both scored by Dave Hannon. St. Barnabas goalkeeper P.J. Doherty pulled off three spectacular saves. Other standout players for the winners were Adrian Clarke, Sean Moyles, Kieran Moyles, Padraig Tully and Billy Donoghue.

St. Josephs were best represented by Mike and John Creegan, Pat Ferris, Jerry Gillespie, Charlie Lovett and Ian Young.

Under 10 League semi

Rangers beat Rockland, 1-8 to 1-2, to earn a place in the ’98 League final. Rangers, led by Steve Cassels at corner half-back, should be placed as favorites to bring home the League Cup.

This was a good game, and were it not for the goalpost blocking two shots from Rockland’s Steve Spellman, the outcome might have been different. Best for Rangers were Lorcan Malone, Chris Cassels, Sean Twomey, Kevin O’Driscoll, Peter Woods and Denis McGoldrick. Rockland’s top players were midfield ace Micky Mangan, Conor Whelan, Sean McGrath, Emmet Woods, Matt Kinsley and Barry Walsh.
