Minor Board Roundup Rockland U-14s prevail, but McArdle stars

The Under-14 match between Celtics and Rockland was the weekend’s Minor Board thriller, providing the spectators at Rockland with some very impressive football Saturday.

The scoreline had Rockland emerge as winners 3-5 to 3-3. The best player on the field, however, was for Celtics. Playing at center halfback, Ciara McArdle gave an outstanding performance, both defensively and offensively, being responsible for launching many Celtic forays into the Rockland side of the field. Rockland had enough firepower to hold the visitors at bay.

Rockland’s stars were Peter Kennelly, Michael O’Sullivan, Stephen Spellman, Pat Seeney and Conor Hogan. Also playing well for Celtic were Sean Tierney, keeper Kate Hochman, Ciaran Patton and Pat Traynor.

In U-12 action, Celtics defeated Rockland. This was a closely contested game with the Celtics pulling ahead at the finish. Daniel Tierney of Celtic kicked a few fine scores from play and added a couple of more from frees. He was ably assisted by C.J. Molloy, Rory Creagan, Keith Carlson and Aisling Smith. Rockland were best served by Conor Whalen, Martin Linnane, Colm Smith, Simon Daly and Sean Giblin.

On Sunday at Fairlawn, N.J., U-10 action had the visiting St. Barnabas squad defeat host St. Josephs in a thriller by a score of 2-4 to 1-5. This match was filled with end-to-end action and terrific football. Outstanding players for St. Barnabas were Darragh Fitzpatrick, Daniel McEaney, Kevin Chambers and Conor Flanagan. Best for St. Josephs were Francie McKenna, Jack Freeman, Brendan O’Shea and Cory Ryan.

The U-14 match was another nail bitter with St. Barnabas again the victors by a score of 4-7 to 3-3. St. Barnabas had fine performances from Tony Caltabiano, Kyle Hannon, Tom McGovern and Brian McGovern

Saturday, at Rockland, Rockland vs. St. Raymond’s in U-10 at 3 p.m., U-12 at 4 p.m., and U-14 at 5 p.m. At Fairlawn, New Jersey, Rangers vs. St. Joseph’s in U-10 at 3 p.m., U-12 at 4 p.m. and U-14 at 5 p.m.

Sunday, at Fairlawn, N.J., St.Barnabas will play St. Raymond’s in U-16 at 10 a.m., and U-18 at 11:15 a.m.
