Minor Board Roundup: St. Brendan’s take U-10 final

Under-10 “B” Final:

The St. Brendan’s and St. Raymond’s Under-10 teams played a close, hard-fought and exciting game, with Brendan’s eventually emerging victorious, 3-6 to 1-8, in the “B” final Saturday at Paddy’s Field in Woodlawn.

Best for St.Brendan’s was Player of the Match Niall Croke, who received excellent support from forwards Niall Harding and Dylan Williams and full forward Ken Joyce. Their defense was solid with the tenacious Joe Meehan and Sean O’Connor playing brilliantly.

The best players for St. Raymond’s were Steve De Poompeis, Sean Lawless, Kevin Brady and Ashley Begley. Player of the Match for St. Raymond’s was Niall Bowdon, who fought for every ball.

U-12 quarterfinal

St. Joseph’s staged a furious second-half rally to beat Rangers 4-4 to 4-1 in a U-12 quarterfinal, with St. Joseph’s claiming the laurels 4-4 to 4-01. Colleen Gilly played well for the winners, not letting anything past her in the air or on the ground. Sean O’Hanlon, Patrick O’Donnell, Mike Reilly and Nick Roitano also played well. Best for Rangers were Brian Twomey, who showed poise and skill in hitting two fine goals, and Fiona Dwyer, D.J. Shannon and Dennis Collins.

Under-14 Quarter Final:

St. Barnabas’s ability to convert possessions into scores was the difference in this 2-8 to 4-0 U-14 quarterfinal victory over Celtics. St. Barnabas were led by Thomas McGovern, who scored a several fine points. He was well supported by teammates Tomas Neilus, Gerard Dunleavy, Richie Smith, Jack Hannon and Anthony McKenna at full forward. Celtics played well and had some fine passing movements. Their best players were Kevin McArdle in goal, Kieran Patton, the ever reliable Allison Traynor, and Shane O’Connor in midfield.
