The event is being held with the cooperation of the University of Montana in Missoula, which offers an Irish studies program that was inaugurated by President Mary McAleese during her visit to Montana in 2006.
“We are hoping to put Montana on the map in the Irish and Irish American world and hope that these events we put on such as these language immersion weeks will bring people here to experience the wealth of Irish history that abounds, most especially in Butte where the descendants of the miners from the Beara peninsula still thrive,” said event organizer Erin O’Riordain
“You open the phone book and there are pages of Sullivans and Harringtons,” she said.
