More honors for Hume

Nobel prize-winner John Hume is scheduled to receive two more prizes in the U.S. within the next week, one of which is the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Non-Violent Peace Prize.

On Wednesday, Jan. 13, Hume will be among those presented with the Top Talker Awards by author Tina Santi Flaherty in New York City. The event is to celebrate Flaherty’s new book, "Talk Your Way to the Top."

The SDLP leader will be awarded for communications excellence in human rights, government and politics. Joining Hume for other prizes will be Broadway producer Marty Richards, columnist Liz Smith and business magnate Lew Rudin.

On Sunday, Jan. 17, in Atlanta, Hume will appear with 1984 Nobel Peace Prize winner Bishop Desmond Tutu at a ceremony to receive the MLK Jr. award.
