DUBLIN — Ireland’s underage soccer success story goes on and on. Following his recent European championship victories at both Under 16 and Under 18 levels, manager Brian Kerr last week took a new-look Under 16 squad to the Nordic Cup tournament in Iceland, where the Irish youngsters once again came away with the honors.
Following victories over Denmark, Norway and Iceland, Ireland beat the favorites England, 3-2, in the final.
Including another triumph with the Under 18 squad at a tournament in Portugal, it was Kerr’s fourth trophy in five months.
“I think the FAI will have to build a new trophy room at Merrion Square if we keep going on like this,” he joked afterward.
