N.Y. Cavan women retain Florida title

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — In the North American County Board Florida Div. football 7-aside tournament, the Clan Eireann club from Lurgan, Co. Armagh, captured the Florida men’s 7-a-side Gaelic football championship played last week at Mills Pond Park.

In the ladies competition, Cavan from New York retained the title they captured last year.

Organized by the local St. Patrick’s Gaelic Football Club and sponsored by Irish company, Powersscreen, for the 12th consecutive year, this year’s tournament was a tremendous success.

Several hundred football fans, many on vacation from northern cities, attended the tournament which was played during a two-day weekend. Ideal weather conditions with temperatures hovering around the 80 degree mark contributed to the success of the event.

In total, fifty-one 30-minute games were played during the 2-day period The following men’s teams competed in a two group round-robin formula on the Saturday:
