Cavan and Mayo will contest the Anne Kearney Cup final Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Gaelic park in the Bronx.

Cavan are already the 1998 Championship holders of the Sean Faherty Cup and will hope to make the double. They met Na Fianna in the first round, which was a close encounter, with only a point separating the sides. The semifinal was another close encounter, when they came back in the dying minutes against Leitrim to win, once again by a point.

Time and again have pulled a win off in the final 10 minutes. Manager Philip Sheridan has guided this team to many finals and, with the skills of Ger Mahon, Rosie O’Reilly, Catherine Russell, Caroline O’Sullivan, Justine Clifford, Olive Wilson, Karen Shalvey, Aisling Creighton, to name but a few, they will be hard to beat.

This is Mayo’s first final since they established their club. They have built a strong panel and have made the championship playoffs for the past few years but were unable to overcome their opponents until now and no doubt they will be determined to take their first title. They paved their path to the final by eliminating Monaghan in the first round and Rockland in the semifinal.

Managers Eamonn Duffy and Edmund Cleary have many skilled players to choose from in Ellen and Ann Marie McGrail, Sharon Gallagher, Mary P. Toolan, Eilish Doherty, Teresa O’Malley, Joanne and Cathy McKenna.
