By Staff Reporter

On Sunday morning at Paddy’s Field, Rockland squared off in the U-14 and U-16 championships, Rockland taking home the valuable points from both games.

In the U-14, Rockland’s 4-7 to 2-2 victory was fashioned by a tough defense led by Kevin Spellman and Terence Moore. Only a point separated the sides at the half, when Michael Ruane was introduced at full forward. Their second-half performance was nothing short of spectacular with Brendan Fennell roaming all over the field setting up Michael Cannon for 3-3, and Ed Loniewski, and scoring himself as well. For St. Raymond’s, Michael and Stephen Greaney, Justin Murray, Michael Delane and Christian O’Neill were best.

In the U-16 game, thanks to a great goalkeeper Luke Fitzpatrick, Rockland remain unbeaten, prevailing 2-4 to 1-5 over St. Raymond’s, and must be fancied on current form. Sean Murphy, Shane Hogan, Chris Mangan and Brian McNamara were outstanding. In Dave Ryan, Sean Nugent, Mark Cappezutti, Mark Centrowiez and Michael Simpson St. Raymond’s were best served.

On Saturday at Paddy’s Field, St. Barnabas had a 2-13 to 2-9 victory over Celtics in the U-14 championship. Brendan Mulroy, Kevin Hanna, Matt Hannon and Pat Quinlan excelled for St. Barnabas. Kate Hockman in goals, John McArdle, Ciara McArdle, C.J. Molloy, Conor McKeon and Brian Slattery were inspirational for Celtics.

St. Barnabas squeezed by Celtics, 2-8 to 2-5, in the U-16 championship. Sean Moyles, Eamon Duffy, T.J. Wimmer, Joe Hallinan and Darrell Bierne stood out for St. Barnabas and must fancy their chances in this championship. Celtics got great performances from Kevin O’Meara, Jamie Lally, Ed Sheeran, Sean Farrelly and Brian Slattery.
