February 17, 2011

The public ceremony, in its 19th year, serves as a reminder to all ethnic groups that freedom and liberty carry a high price. Local honorees are remembered in a roll call and the original 1916 Proclamation of the Irish Republic will be read, said organizers in a statement.
Part of this year’s commemoration will also mark the 28th anniversary of the 1981 hunger strikes at Long Kesh prison. Details on the commemoration are available from Patrick Reardon at (203)376-0770 or Joseph Lynch at (203)483-4574.
