New & Noteworthy: Colin: Hold the phone

Speaking of Farrell, we hear that his current movie, “Phone Booth,” is sort of a “Speed” meets “Dial M for Murder” hybrid. The premise is that, while walking down the street, he happens to answer a ringing pay phone. Naturally, the voice on the line informs him that if he hangs up the phone, he will be shot immediately. Which, in our opinion, is really a hell of a way for the phone company to collect that extra 10 cents for the next three minutes.
The director of this high-concept opus is Joel Schumacher, who can be credited with introducing Colin to American audiences — at least, to those few who weren’t already swooning over Farrell in “Ballykissangel.” In 1998, Schumacher cast a then-unknown Farrell in his wrenching Vietnam war pic, “Tigerland.”
