Danu goes “Underground”
We’re hearing great things, both from and about Irish trad band Danu. Check them out for yourself tonight, Sept. 25, when they perform at Village Underground, 130 West 3rd St. (between Sixth Avenue and MacDougal Street) in NYC. They’ll be playing numbers from their new album, “All Things Considered.” Be there, and in years to come, you’ll be able to say you saw them back in the days. Details, (212) 777-7745.

If the boat’s a-rockin’ . . .
If you like your hip hop with a Hibernian flavah, or your reggae mixed in with a rake of reels, mon, head over to Pier 63 at West 23rd Street, NYC this Thursday, Sept. 26, for a Cruise Around Manhattan with Seanchai & the Unity Squad. Personally, we can’t think of a better way to pass an early autumn night than on the deck of the Half Moon, singing along to “Walk All the Days.” For the brainy ones among you, there’s a pub quiz, too. The boat leaves at 7 p.m. sharp, and tickets are $20. For details, call (212) 725-3871.
Pat Maguire Band
akes the subway
If you’re in the vicinity of Glendale, N.Y., on Friday night, Sept. 27, do yourself a favor and head over to Dan Foley’s Restaurant & Pub to catch the Pat Maguire Band. Need reasons? OK: 1. We guarantee that the music will be great (loved his last album, “Love Songs for Astronauts”). 2. There’s no cover charge. 3. With what you save on the cover charge, you can buy an extra round for your friends. And that’ll make you popular. For details, call (718) 628-8100.

Eileen Ivers fiddles
through New England
We have to confess: every time we saw “Riverdance,” we counted the minutes until Eileen Ivers bounded onstage for her solo spot. Blue violin tucked firmly under her chin, Ivers would skip, dance and make that fiddle sing. This week, our neighbors to the north (of NYC, that is) will get to see the Eileen Ivers Band perform live. The dates: Friday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m. at Regis College Fine Arts Center, Weston, ([781] 768-7070); Sept. 28, at 8 p.m. at Dana Center, St. Anselm College, Manchester, N.H. ([603] 641-7700); Sunday, Sept. 29, at 7:30 p.m. at Fuller Hall, St. Johnsbury Academy, St. Johnsbury, Vt. ([802] 748-2600). Go. Enjoy.

Go get some culture
If cultural institutions were like rock stars, the Irish Arts Center would be Bono: earnest, involved in improving the human condition and still kinda cool. While you’re pondering that analogy, we’ll remind you to pick up your tickets for the Irish Arts Center’s Third Annual Benefit Dinner Dance, which takes place on Friday, Oct. 4, at the New York Athletic Club. Ladies, you’ll get to swoon over Hollywood heartthrob Gabriel Byrne, who is one of the evening’s honorees, along with Diarmuid Hogan, president, Beaumont Hospital International Foundation & Global Excess Partners. Trust us — those IAC people know how to throw a party, and hey, the money goes to a good cause, so be there. Details, (212) 757-3318, ext. 202.
