New & Noteworthy: Oz is no oasis for Gallaghers

The pugnacious Oasis siblings suffered a slight case of cabin fever last week, when they were forced to spend 24 hours together during a flight from London to Australia. Despite the calming presence of the rest of the band and the touring staff, the atmosphere between the two brothers went from jovial to poisonous in the blink of a bleary eye. An eyewitness told Britain’s Sun newspaper that by the time they landed in Brisbane, the pair weren’t even on speaking terms. In fact, Noel insisted on arranging separate transport to their hotel.
The Sun quoted Liam telling bystanders, “I don’t think he wants to be photographed with me. We’re not getting along too well.”
The singer also warned reporters that they’d want to pick and choose their questions with an eye to their personal safety. Recalling an incident when he head-butted an Aussie fan during the band’s last visit Down Under, he sneered, “If anyone starts asking about that lad . . . they’ll get the same.”
Oasis is on the final leg of their world tour, in support of their current album, “Don’t Believe the Truth.”
