New & Noteworthy: Sinead says somethin’ ‘Stupid’

“Why should anyone give a [rhymes with spit] what I, Bono or anybody else thinks about anything?” she demanded during an interview with RTE.
The singer believes that rock stars are “too stupid” to be authorities on anything other than, well, being rock stars. World causes, for example, are far to complex and important to be entrusted to people whose most pressing daily decision is whether to wear the black leather or the black demin.
“We’re incredibly silly people really,” said Sinead. “That’s why we have to sing. The reason you’re a singer is because you can’t communicate in any other way.
O’Connor, who caused a firestorm in the early ’90s when she ripped up a picture of the pope on “Saturday Night Live,” is philosophical about the unwarranted emphasis attached to celebrity utterances.
“Our opinion shouldn’t matter to anybody,” she said. “But people are always in front of your face asking for your views.”
