New & Noteworthy’s Guide to the Guinness Fleadh

They were rockin’ and rollin’ (and jigging and set dancing, etc., etc.) in Boston last weekend at the Beantown edition of the Guinness Fleadh. Personally, we’re only counting the minutes till the big show kicks off this Saturday, June 26, on Randalls Island in New York.

Now, we all know that the headliners are Elvis Costello and Hootie and the Blowfish, but there are more terrific acts than you could shake a stick at – were you, indeed, in the humor to shake a stick at anyone, and always assuming you didn’t mind that pesky dangling preposition.

Anyway, since so many of you will be heading for the Fleadh, we thought it might be nice to give you the performance schedule. One caveat: these times and stage assignments were correct as of press time, but there may be last-minute changes in the lineup. And as if the confirmed list weren’t impressive enough, we’re still hearing strong rumors of surprise guests. So have a great time, enjoy the music, stay well hydrated, wear a hat, and don’t forget the suncreen.

By the way, this week’s winners of tickets to the Fleadh are: Joan Burns, Rockaway Park, N.Y.; Fergal McNamara, Astoria, N.Y.; Michael Harasek, Trenton, N.J. If you meet any of these lucky people, make sure you say hello.
