New York badly needs competitive matches as they try to prepare for the pace of championship football and their May 2 tussle versus Mayo.
Pat Scanlan’s men started slowly as Boston took the early initiative, taking a one-point lead that probably should have been more. Then Kenny O’Connor began to get a grip at midfield and the always dangerous Bingo O’Driscoll began to find the target for New York.
Boston keeper Cathal Brady was in top form, pulling off several saves to keep Boston alive as the home side began to assert itself. Brady’s heroics kept the New York halftime lead to the minimum, 0-8 to 0-7.
Manager Scanlan is still trying to find the right combination to take on Mayo, so five changes were made at the half. Two subs, home-grown players Danny O’Sullivan and Ruari O’Neill, contributed points and further scores from Tadgh Foley, Brian Newman, and Michael Keane staked New York to a four-point lead.
The Gotham squad seemed to have the match in hand but Boston stormed back and scored a great goal to tie. Boston added a point for a late lead, but Paul Murray’s point just before the full time whistle saved face for the hosts and set the final scoreline3.
