New York hurlers will steal a step on their footballing counterparts this spring when they entertain Down at Gaelic Park for the first-ever championship clash to be played at the Bronx GAA headquarters.

The clash of ash will be ringing around Gaelic Park on May 13, with the home side eager to gain revenge for their loss at the hands of the Mourne men last season.

New York’s manager, Kieran O’Sullivan, will have Anthony Gaughan as trainer this season, guaranteeing that the New York side will be in tip-top shape for the championship clash.

Down have struggled in the Ulster championship since their All-Ireland semifinal appearance a few years back. Their all-star attacker and captain, Gerard McGrattan, has failed to live up to his expectations and several poor league performances has resulted in low moral. At the weekend, Down had a facile victory over bottom of the table Armagh at McGleenan Park, Keady. The pointless Orchard county failed to compete with the more accomplished Mourne men is every section. Down led by 1-19 to 0-1 at the interval with McGrattan, Braniff, Gordon and Clarke all hitting the target with ease.

The New York panel presently in training is as follows: Tipperary — Tomas Keane, Declan Burke, Declan O’Meara, Owen Cummins, Ian Duggan, Jimmy Lyons, John Madden, Kevin Kennedy, Mike Kennedy;
