New York GAA Rockland serve notice of big things to come

Rockland 2-15, Roscommon 1-7

Senior Football Div. 1 clubs take notice. Rockland, last year’s junior champions, are sending out a warning, as if anyone didn’t know already, that they’re not a junior side any longer. Despite having put Cork to the side in a scintillating display last week, Roscommon were truly outclassed and outmaneuvered in this Div. 2 clash Sunday at Gaelic Park.

Rockland, despite a poor showing against Offaly recently, came out on top to return to the winning ways. Sitting pretty among the leaders of the division, Rockland are threatening to do what Kerry did last year, that is to come up from Div. 2 and clinch the whole championship. Of course it’s a long way to go, and we haven’t seen this side versus any of the stronger first division sides.

Among Rockland’s stars of the day were Mike Fitzpatrick, Dave Fitzgerald and Mike Healy, who maintained their positive scoring ration for the season. Leading practically throughout the tie, these three fellows made sure that the Rockies maintained their position at the top of their division.

Roscommon: Paul Levins, Joe Naughton, Pauric Mullaly, Declan Coyne, Ger Mockler, Ken Deacon, Tommy Simms, Peter Mahon, Conor Killeen, D.J. Brennan, Niall Finneran (1-4), Sean Kearney, Donie Farrell (0-1), Richie Maher (0-1), Colm Kelly (0-1).
