Fermanagh 1-15, Dublin 0-9 Only two seasons ago these clubs were facing each other in the Junior “B” ranks and it is testimony to both that they are now in the “A” ranks. On this occasion it was the more experienced Fermanagh side that gained the verdict as they recorded their first victory of the new season.

It wasn’t until the second half, however, that they were able to press home their advantage. Once again, poor finishing helped their opponents stay in touch and it seemed that it would prove to be their undoing once more. But a concerted late effort would help put them out of reach and record a vital two points.

It was their experienced attacker, Monty Bogue aided by Phil McDermott and Paul Daly, which helped the Ernesiders to victory. The former’s contribution, especially in the early stages, helped steady his side and, with Aodh McGuinness adding scores, they were able to hold the advantage at the interval. It was a slender lead, however, despite their possession and Dublin were managing to stay in touch. Early Fermanagh scores on the restart helped strengthen their position and as the game progressed they became stronger with Philip McDermott’s goal eight minutes from time helping seal Dublin’s fate.

Eamon Cassidy, Kieran Lee, Noel McGovern, Philip Mallon, Phil McDermott were best for Fermanagh. Mick Cusack, Danny Connell, Dermot Dalton, Ian Mullett and Colm Wilson tried hard for the Dubs.

Fermanagh scorers: P. McDermott 1-4, S. Bogue 0-3, A. McGuinness 0-3, P. Daly 0-2, P. Mallon, M. McGovern and N. Cull all 0-1.
