Early arrivals to Gaelic Park on Sunday were treated to a fine performance of underage football as New York’s U-14 team outdueled Sligo, 1-8 to 2-1.
The players served up a football feast in the opening half. New York jumped to an early lead via two points from Conor Brady, two points from C.J. Molloy and a goal by Thomas McGovern and thus ran out to a comfortable halftime lead of 1-4 to no score.
In the second half, New York extended their lead as Chris Cassels and C.J. Molloy kicked points. Sligo then mounted a comeback, with goals from Brian Curley and Eamon Nugent, plus a point from Darren Tuffy. But New York took control again, and Thomas McGovern and Sean Tierney added points for New York to seal their victory.
The game featured a high caliber of passing, fielding the ball, soloing and defensive play. Besides the scorers, other players who excelled were Lorcan Malone at fullback, goalkeeper Brian Warner, halfbacks Steve Cassels, Allison Traynor and Emmett Woods, midfielders Nick Mangan and Mike Ruane, and forwards Sean Twomey, Katie Enright and Shane O’Connor.

On Sunday at Paddy’s Field, U-16 action saw St. Raymond’s defeat St. Barnabas 3-5 to 3-4. St. Raymond’s best were Justin Murray, Michael Durkan, Conor McKeon, and Peter Cassels. St. Barnabas’ top players were Gary Clancy, Kyle Hannon, John Mulligan and Dan Helbig. Player of the match for St. Raymond’s was Brian Denneny and for St. Barnabas, Joe Graziosa.
In U-18 action, St. Barnabas were the winners 1-10 to 1-2. Top players for St. Barnabas were Matt Hannon, Douglas Brady, John Mcardle and Kevin Hannon. St. Raymond’s best were James Simpson, Michael Greaney, Stephen Greaney and John Greaney. Players of the Match were David Hannon of St. Barnabas and Chris Clarke of St. Raymond’s.
