At Queen’s University in Belfast, new dental technology has been unveiled.

For some people, the technology will mean the end of injections, drilling and filling. A plastic cap can be placed on a decaying tooth, and ozone is squirted into the cap. The bacteria and decay are destroyed, and in some cases, the teeth will remineralize and harden.

Researchers said that the method is particularly useful for treating the first sign of decay in young children’s teeth. For adults with fillings, the only treatment is the drill.
