February 16, 2011

By Staff Reporter

A ceili is set for Saturday, Aug. 2, at 8 p.m. in North Wildwood, N.J., Knights of Columbus Hall, New York and Walnut Avenues. Admission is $5. Call (609) 523-8602 for information.

Dances will include reels, jigs and waltzes. Beginners are welcome to attend. Free instruction will be offered.

The ceili is sponsored by the Irish Feis By The Sea committee. The group hosts an annual adult Irish dance competition in North Wildwood. Dancers from five states represented 11 schools of Irish dance in this year’s June 20 competition. Ceili proceeds will help to pay for the June 19, 1999 feis expenses.

Feis committee members include: Suzanne Miller of Fishing Creek, Mary Pat Hastings and Patti McKnight of North Wildwood, Bob and Maureen Bingham of North Cape May, Joe Meehan of Villas, and Bernie Groff of Cape May.

Weekly ceili dance lessons are offered Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. in the North Wildwood Elks Lodge, 1st and New Jersey Avenues. Monthly ceilis are sponsored September through June, fourth Saturday, by the Irish American Cultural Society of South Jersey at the Somers Point American Legion Post, 1st and Pennsylvania Avenue, at 8 p.m.
