Northern deal delayed while Provos powwow

The British government was forced to postpone assembly elections from May 1 to May 29 in order to allow for republicans to reach a definitive decision. However, before the talks broke off, the leadership of Sinn Fein and that of the Ulster Unionist Party had their most intensive face-to-face talks ever, including one session that lasted 90 minutes.
At this meeting, according to one source, the republican leaders spelled out to the Unionists what the IRA was prepared to do to meet the British government
