By Staff Reporter

Yvonne Rabbitte and Sue Bennett quickly added two minors. A deceptive strike by Sue Bennett ended with the ball nestled in the net to put Kerry/Donegal 1-6 to 0-0 with 10 minutes left in the first half. Na Fianna struggled to get the ball out of their defense, then on a rare attack Mary McEvoy picked out Marie Melly with a perfect pass from the wing as she bore down on goal, only to be hauled to the ground. Na Fianna had no luck as McEvoy’s well-struck penalty hit the post, and Eiblish Dinneen smothered the rebound. Despite pressure by Brenda Furlong, Ann Ryan and Marie Melly, scores were not coming for Na Fianna. Players of the Game: Yvonne Rabbitte, Kerry/Donegal; Sue Hannon, Na Fianna.

CAVAN 5-16, MONAGHAN 0-2
Monaghan started with thirteen players and Cavan were much stronger throughout the field. Rosie O’Reilly opened up the scoring playing in midfield when she converted a free from 40 yards. Cavan missed a lot of scoring opportunities but kept the pressure on the Monaghan backline. Sinead Keenan punished a goal keeping error with a well-taken goal. Monaghan began to push forward but found it hard to penetrate Cavan’s backline. After a Monaghan score, Cavan replied with a point from Sinead Keenan, who then set up Ger Mahon for a well-taken goal.
Monaghan were forced to put midfielder Sharon Doogan into goals due to injury. Stellar defending from Varina Carey ad Dervail Kavanagh kept the scores down. Ger Mahon was on song today adding a further 1-3. ROCKLAND 5-6, FERMANAGH 0-1
Rockland quickly stamped their authority on this clash as Lorraine Kiernan volleyed the ball soccer-style for their first score. The full forward quickly followed with a well-struck left-footed shot for a goal. The same player was on target again for the second goal from a goalmouth scramble as Fermanagh failed to clear their lines. At this stage it was all Rockland as Sinead Keane and Cathy Dunleavy combined for a third goal. Eventually Fermanagh moved into Rockland territory with Tara Mahon setting up Mary Denneny for a point. Fermanagh’s Teresa O’Reilly, Ann-Marie Kelly and Fiona O’Dwyer began to find their feet and urge their colleagues on. A great set piece from a 45 by Jonnie Foley ended with Jenny Kirby racing from the back to fire over a great point. Another goal strike by Sinead Keane effectively buried Fermanagh as half time approached.
Little changed in the second half as Rockland consolidated their lead. The springboard for their attacks came from their two center halfs, Jenny Kirby and Kerry Ann Galvin. Great performances from Gillian Murray, Teresa O’Reilly, Ann-Marie Kelly, Katrina Coyle, Fiona O’Dwyer and Natasha McGlade couldn’t halt this Rockland outfit.
