Don O’Dwyer, a native of Borrisleigh, amassed 45 points to outpace 70 other golfers in the recent County Tipperary N. & B. Association annual golf outing at the new Irish links-style course, The Links at Union Vale, N.Y.

In winning the Stableford event, O’Dwyer earned the association’s permanent crystal trophy. Other winners were Pat Peters (Kilruane), second, with 37 points; Phil O’Meara (Cappawhite), third 34.

Callaway winners included Cathal White, Joe Ryan and Liam Costello. The low gross winner was Ger Ryan (Silvermines). Best in foursome were John O’Connell, Ken Dunne (Toomevara), Geoff Bramhall, Kevin Kennedy (Toomevara), Liam Gleeson (Hollyford), Ambrose O’Connell and James O’Keefe (Nenagh).

Nearest the pin winners were Ger Ryan (Silvermines), Phil Martin (Ballingarry), Mike Gleeson (Hollyford), and Damian Shanahan (Roscrea), who also won the longest drive.

The top women were Mary Gleeson, Breda Cullagh, Frances Costigan and Ann O’Dwyer.

The Tipperary N. & B. Association president Mike Fogarty (Knockshegowna), event chairman, Noel Hickey (Gortnahoe) and Tipperary Crystal’s Ed Hanesberry made the presentations. Singer Joe Ryan (Knockavilla) entertained.

The outing was chaired by Noel Hickey (Gortnahoe) and committee members Fogarty, Liam Gleeson (Hollyford) and Pat Costigan (Templetouhy). Ambrose O’Connell (Killenaule) served as M.C. for the awards dinner.

Correction

In last week’s Echo, a photo on Page 39 of the Guinness New York Irish Open winners incorrectly identified the home county of low-net winner Mike Curran. He is from Waterford.
