Carey Challenge Cup in East Hampton
The 1999 Gov. Hugh L. Carey Challenge Cup golf tournament will take place Oct. 12 at The Maidstone Club, East Hampton, N.Y. The beneficiary will be the MGA Foundation, a charitable organization. The competition is held in conjunction with the Golfing Union of Ireland and the Metropolitan Golf Association. The tournament, which alternates between the U.S. and Ireland, takes place during two days and is preceded by a corporate "AM-AM" competition pairing each of the 16 players with three amateurs. Marathon recruiting
The Joints in Motion training team is now recruiting runners and walkers for the Dublin marathon on Oct. 25. Those who sign up will receive 20 weeks of group training, round-trip air fare, hotel accommodations and prizes — all for raising a minimum of $3,600 through sponsor donations. Golf tournament
The sixth annual charity golf tournament for the North West Hospice for the terminally ill in Ireland will take place Aug. 21 in Pleasantview Lodge, in Freehold, N.Y.

The £600,000 hospice, which was recently opened by Health Minister Brian Cowen, is based in Sligo and serves Leitrim, west Cavan, south Donegal and north Roscommon.
Tee off time is 11 a.m. and the Calloway System will be used.
Entry fee of $100 per person or $400 per foursome covers green fees, electric cart, light lunch and refreshments and full course dinner. A tee may be sponsored for $100. For those attending dinner only, the cost is $25. Checks should be made payable to Northwest Hospice.

Seattle Gaels
In Seattle, the Irish Heritage Club and the Seattle Gaels Gaelic Football Club are again hoping to send two teams to the North American championships in September. To support this effort, the annual shepherd’s pie, quiz and games night will take place July 23 in the Catholic Seaman’s Club. The cost is $25 per person.
